Meet Boo, a little black cat with a big secret: he’s afraid of almost everything! For the first time, Boo feels something stronger than his own fear—the urge to help someone smaller and more scared than himself. Gathering all his courage, he finds a way to set the tiny creature free. Grateful for his kindness, the little firefly decides to return the favor in a magical way. He zips over to the dark, unlit pumpkin belonging to Boo’s best friend, Lily, and with a happy flash, makes it glow brightly from within! “In a house of crooked timbers,
On a dark and quiet street,
Lived a little scrap of midnight,
With four tiny, nervous feet.
His name was Boo, a velvet cat,
As black as ink could be,
But a braver mouse could scarce
Be missed, a bolder flea than he.
For Boo was scared of everything,
A true-born scaredy-cat,
He’d jump if a soft feather fell,
Right there upon the mat!
“The rustle of an autumn leaf,
Was like a dragon’s roar,
The creaking of a floorboard
Was a monster at the door.
He feared the gurgle of the drain
The wind’s low, mournful sigh,
He’d hide if a clumsy beetle
Came a-buzzing slowly by.
His very own dark shadow,
When it danced upon the wall,
Would make him dive beneath the couch
And curl into a ball.
“And on this night, of all nights,
The world was filled with dread,
For Halloween had come alive
While folks were in their bed.
The moon a ghostly sliver,
Watched the world from up on high,
As skeletal tree branches clawed
Against the purple sky.
The air itself felt tingly,
With a strange and mystic hum,
The night for ghouls and goblins
And for spooky things had come.“
